June 29, 2021 - Medford City Hall

I was proud to stand before the City Council last night to address final questions and discuss amendments I suggested to our original FY22 budget proposal, which was approved by a 5-2 vote.

After spending 18 years on the City Council I have experienced my fair share of budget hearings. I know how seriously Councilors take their responsibilities during the budget process, and I wanted to be there in person to answer questions and talk through concerns. Also having served on that Council, I know it is uncommon for a Mayor to be this directly involved, but it was my honor to present both our original budget and our amended budget last night alongside our Finance team.

I want to thank the five members of the Council who negotiated with my administration in good faith to pass a budget that is in the best interests of this City and that makes a substantial investment in our schools, infrastructure, and emergency services.
The overwhelming support of its passage, including 7-0 approval from the School Committee, is due to the incredible work done by our finance team, department heads, City Council, School Committee and school administration.
Without these efforts, we wouldn’t be able to provide residents with the resources and services that they need as we begin to emerge from the last year and a half and continue the hard work already begun.
